CCM Tackles Underrepresentation in Classical Music with the CSO/CCM Diversity Fellowship

Published November 6th, 2020

The University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) and the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra (CSO) are committed to making classical music more inclusive. Born out of a mutual desire to help American orchestras to better represent the communities they serve, the CSO/CCM Diversity Fellowship will continue to support exceptional Graduate-level string players from historically underrepresented groups with full-tuition, stipends, paid performance opportunities, and professional mentorship.

Eligible violin, viola, cello, and double bass players will have the opportunity to receive a full-tuition scholarship for a Master of Music or Artist Diploma from CCM. A $10,000 per year stipend and a one-time Dean’s Excellence Award for $3000 will be awarded on top of full-tuition.

Up to five outstanding string players will also receive $8,000 per season to play with the world-class Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra where they will receive coaching and mentorship from a CSO member.

Additionally, Fellowship recipients will receive compensation for travel and professional development opportunities for community engagement and educational outreach, as well as summer residency opportunities with the Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra.
